Bio/Description

Hi, I'm Boya! I'm a junior from College Station, Texas studying Molecular Biology with a certificate in Visual Arts.

Outside of class, I am involved with Manna Christian Fellowship, Princeton Pre-Dental Association, and volunteer with Princeton Blood Drive and PMPH. During the spring of my freshman year, I founded Princeton Sketchbook, which is a visual arts/crafts club that aims to bring more visual arts events for the Princeton community. I enjoy any artistic endeavor and you’ll probably often find me in the NCW Ceramics studio attending workshops (which I highly recommend signing up for!).

My favorite freshmen year memory was at the end of the semester, my roommate and I celebrated our hard work by splurging our Paw Points on Lan Ramen and boba. Afterwards, we watched the talented members of BodyHype perform their fall show.

A class that has influenced me is Chinese Cinemas: EAS236/COM228. I took this class without knowing anything about analyzing film but learned so much about film theory, the connection between historical events and their representation in film, and the different techniques directors use to achieve a certain mood or effect. This was certainly a daunting class at first, but I think it really helped introduce me to Princeton’s liberal arts course experience. Whenever I watch movies for other classes now or even in my free time, there will be times where I still use some of the concepts I’ve learned in that class to engage with the film on a more analytical level.

I am excited to meet you and learn about your interests! I can answer any pre-health questions you may have such as course requirements, finding balance, and getting involved in clubs outside of class. Since many of my hobbies gravitate towards the visual arts which is a bit different from my concentration (molecular biology), I have some experience incorporating these hobbies into other facets of my life at Princeton. One of the ways I’m continuing my exploration of the arts is through a visual arts minor, so if you have any questions about the visual arts classes here or about the minor itself, I’d be happy to answer them! Additionally, if you need help in finding ways to balance multiple interests and pursue/sustain your hobbies both inside and outside of class, I’d love to help you : )

It may take some time to adjust during freshman year both academically and socially, so remember to give yourself grace and have faith in yourself!
