Bio/Description

Hi, I'm Luis! I'm a junior from Newark, New Jersey studying Politics with a certificate in Latin American Studies.

On campus, I am a Mellon Mays Fellow, which is a fellowship program for humanities and humanistic social sciences. Being a part of it has given me a lot of support with my pursuit of getting a Ph.D. after graduation. I’m also the co-Secretary general for this year’s Princeton Model United Nations (currently looking for staffers so let me know if you want to learn more about it!). I also was a college adviser with Matriculate and have done research for various programs at Princeton.

I really enjoyed the freedom I had in my spring semester during my first year at Princeton. After getting over the adjustment period that was first-year fall, I was able to plan a lot of fun trips with friends, was able to take classes I was interested in, and got more involved in extracurriculars that I love today.

POL 344: Race and Politics in the United States has been the most transformative class I've taken at Princeton. Professor Ismail White was extremely encouraging and receptive to my research project idea. His office hours and class structure allowed me to ask questions and workshop ideas that I felt really passionate about.

I’m an expert and having to make really last minute out-of-nowhere decisions. Switching majors, classes, or careers, I've pretty much done it all whether I wanted to or not.

While I’m officially a 'PAA', I’m more than happy to be a resource for anything you want to talk about. Whether to celebrate your amazing achievements or to be there to listen when you need someone to listen through a rough time you're going through. I'm really excited to get to know everyone!
