Hi, I'm Maddy! I'm a junior from Chesapeake, VA studying Sociology with a certificate in Dance.
During my time at Princeton, I have been involved in the dance community, performing in two senior dance theses and serving as president of eXpressions Dance Company. I am also an Outdoor Action leader and have enjoyed participating in and leading overnight outdoor trips. I work at the Frist Welcome Desk, and I am a part of the Princeton Filipino Community, Tiger Inn, and a Service Focus cohort, all of which have provided me with unique opportunities to stay connected with the Princeton community.
One of my favorite first-year memories was dancing in my first eXpressions show! The culmination of months of rehearsals in the studio finally coming to life on stage while also performing with my closest friends was incredibly rewarding. The audience, including my friends and zee-mates, showed so much support, cheering everyone on with boundless energy, which made the whole experience even more special.
FRS161 Earth: Crops, Culture, and Climate (in Italy) was a course I took my first-year fall that not only introduced me to some of my closest Princeton friends, but also introduced me to coding, field research, and statistical methods. As part of the class, we spent our fall break in a small town in southern Italy and conducted research on olive orchards in the area. This research experience culminated in designing our own final projects where we independently explored specific topics. This course honed my critical thinking skills and shifted how I approach research and crafting research questions. While FRS161 was a challenging course for me, it has been transformative in my academic career.
I would love to answer any questions about major selection and figuring out your academic path. I was undecided leading up to declaration, so I understand what it’s like to not know what you want to do! I’d like incoming Yeh first-years to know that it’s totally normal to feel uncertain, overwhelmed, excited, nervous–the full range of emotions–coming into college. Please feel free to reach out about anything, academic or not, because we’re here for you! So excited to meet you all :)
