Bio/Description

Hi, I'm Myles! I'm a junior from Oakville, Ontario, Canada studying Electrical & Computer Engineering with a certificate in Computer Science.  At Princeton, I've been an assistant editor at The Daily Princetonian, a Princeton Preview captain, and an administrator for Princeton Splash. I’m also a member of the Princeton Tower Club.

A favorite memory from my first year at Princeton was participating in International Orientation (IO). Arriving on campus early and participating in off-campus trips, campus tours, and scavenger hunts soothed my anxieties about Princeton, and helped me meet some great friends in the process! The first few weeks are busy and sometimes nerve-wracking, but the people you meet make it worth your while.

Out of all the classes I've taken at Princeton, the one that stuck with me the most was FRS 133: Knowing Minds. We studied illuminating topics such as theory of mind, egocentric biases, and, generally, how to know our own minds as well as the minds of others. It's shaped the way that I think in countless ways. One of my favorite topics we read about was Gilovich’s Spotlight Effect, which says that we tend to stand out in our own minds – our appearances and actions are probably not being noted by others as much as we think.

While at Princeton, I’ve had tons of experience exploring the different BSE pathways (especially ECE and COS) and how to combine them with multidisciplinary minors/certificates. I’ve also had experience balancing mental wellness with academics. I can help with organizing study schedules, finding the best on-campus study spot, and putting together the perfect playlist. I also love playing musical instruments and building things with software, from personal projects to startups!

I’d encourage all first-years to try out a freshman seminar. They’re usually really interesting, rewarding classes. Also, remember that you can shop your courses during the first two weeks, and there’s room to switch things up. You don’t have to know everything, and you’re allowed to take things slow!
